EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems, in collaboration with N.C. Cooperative Extension and the NC Small Business Network, is excited to announce an upcoming workshop for aspiring farmers in Western North Carolina. Titled “So You Want to Start a Farm…Now What?”, this workshop will provide valuable information and resources for those looking to enter the agricultural industry.
The workshop, led by Carol Coulter, Adjunct Professor at Appalachian State University’s Sustainable Development Department and former co-owner of Homestead Heritage Goat Dairy, will focus on helping new farmers navigate the complexities of starting a farm. Participants will learn about land access options, defining goals and strategies, resource assessment, and developing a business plan.
“This workshop is not just about farming; it’s about creating successful businesses,” said Laura Lauffer, Project Director of EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems. “By providing aspiring farmers with the tools they need to develop sound business practices from the start, we are setting them up for long-term success.”
