As we all prepare for the cooler temps and back to school activities, this August we
have been busy teaching and scheduling two brand new adult nutrition classes. Using the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program’s robust adult curriculum, Eat Smart, Move More, we have begun getting the current group of new Habitat
Homeowners ready and set for their brand-new kitchens! Their first class featured a
unique smoothie recipe, the Avocolada, a refreshing and nutritious drink that includes
hydrating coconut water along with sweet frozen pineapple, creamy and rich avocado
and a zing of fresh lime juice. As we discussed with the homeowners, smoothies are a great tactic for keeping our fruit and vegetable intake up to speed while saving time in the kitchen, this is especially important during high energy times such as moving into a new home. Smoothies also great for using up those rapidly ripening and nutritionally precious produce gems!
As we continue with the 6-class series each class will feature a lesson that includes
ways to not only save money, but how to prepare time-saving healthy recipes as well.
To round out each lesson we will always include a new inspiration for fun physical
activities to keep their energy high! The HHH classes will run through the end of the
year, culminating in a graduation certificate in December 2024.
Beginning in September we will begin another adult nutrition class to be held at the
Asheville WellCare Medicare facility at their Tunnel Rd. location. These classes will run September 12-October 24, and they are using the same ESMM curriculum as highlighted above!
