Abby  Whitaker is the Livestock and Forage Crops Area Agent for Buncombe and Henderson counties. When asked to describe her role she said “I work directly with farmers who have questions about their livestock, pastures, and hay crops. I
strive to provide timely information to them and help solve their every day problems. I help lead local youth livestock programs such as the WNC Dairy Steer Program, Livestock Judging, and the WNC 4-H Pullet Project. I work closely with the WNC Beef Cattle Commission, Mountain Cattle Alliance, NCDA, and other organizations to help offer educational programs for anyone interested in livestock in our area!”

Abby said her favorite part of the job is helping people, she said “I love helping people, finding a simple solution to their problem, connecting them to the right
resource, or watching youth learn more about livestock would be the best parts of my job! It is fun to watch connections be made and people use the information we are able to provide!”

Abby’s favorite experiences in Extension have been coaching her livestock judging kids and working with the WNC Dairy Steer Program the past two years. She’s looking forward to round 3 and seeing how much the kids and the calves grow this year!

Abby is from Mooresboro, a small town in Cleveland County. She loves bluegrass music, plays the mandolin, and makes pottery with her Dad. She has two dogs who keep her life very entertaining, Crow, a 7 year old Australian Shepherd and Flint, a 5 year old Cowboy Corgi, half heeler and half corgi.
