Cooperative Extension, NC State Extension, and USGS are hosting a one day workshop to help answer questions and offer recommendations to Extension staff, volunteer organizations, municipality employees, Emergency Services personnel, and local organizations to help answer questions and provide guidance on landslide and streambank repair needs due to TS Helene. This workshop is NOT for homeowners, but more focused on the needs of those who are in the field consulting with homeowners about recommendations for small scale repair efforts.
Classroom topics being covered include:- What are landslides, when, why and where they happen
- How to determine slope Rise and Run Calculation and Slope Calculator
- Vulnerable Landforms and Soil Types
- Underlying Rock Depth
- Run-off and slope maintenance
- Remediation of impacted Slopes and Preventive Measures for Future Storms on Non-Impacted Slopes
- Use of Drones for Slide Repair
- and Engineered Solutions
- Thursday, December 4th - YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Buncombe County
- Friday, December 5th - Mayland Community College in Mitchell County
