NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers Strengthen Extension's Delivery

NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteers (EMGV) serve as a vital force in expanding the outreach of local Extension staff. By delivering research-based horticultural information, these volunteers transform complex science into practical, everyday solutions that enhance lives and support our state’s growth.

In 2025, 91 dedicated EMG volunteers in Buncombe County contributed 7,789 hours of service. Their efforts resulted in 6,754 community contacts, providing an economic impact valued at $270,979.

Volunteers engaged the community through diverse initiatives, including:

  • The Garden Helpline: Direct troubleshooting for residents.
  • Education Programs: Expert-led sessions offered both online and in-person.
  • Plant Clinics & Youth Activities: Hands-on learning for gardeners of all ages.
