Twelve youth from Buncombe and Henderson Counties competed in the 2025 North Carolina 4-H State Livestock Competitions at NC State University, July 31- August 2nd. These youth competed in the Skill-a-thon, Livestock Judging and Quizbowl competitions. Since March, these dedicated youth have been practicing weekly to increase their knowledge of beef, sheep, swine and goats. While participating in this program, these youth have learned about livestock breeds, feeds, cuts of meat, tools and how to evaluate livestock animals. Through this program, youth also learn essential life skills they will use into their adult lives, such as public speaking, critical thinking and most importantly, self-confidence as they see their hard work pay off at the competition!
Coached by Livestock Agent, Abby Whitaker, the Buncombe and Henderson County teams represented our counties well at the 2025 Competition where they showed great teamwork, sportsmanship and even brought home several awards! Congratulations to each of these 4-H'ers for their hard work and dedication to this program!Junior Division (ages 8-10)
