Interactive two-day course returns November 8–9 at Warren Wilson College

Flier for the 2025 Bee SchoolThe Buncombe County Beekeepers Club (BCBC), one of the largest and longest-standing beekeeping clubs in North Carolina, is pleased to announce its annual Bee School, taking place November 8–9, 2025, at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa.

The weekend program is designed to cover the essentials of beekeeping, providing beginners with the tools to successfully navigate their first year while also offering fresh perspectives for seasoned beekeepers. Participants will gain practical knowledge, hands-on experience, and a deeper understanding of the fascinating world of honey bees.

“Bee School is the perfect place for anyone curious about beekeeping to take that first step,” said Mary Liske, President of BCBC. “It also gives experienced beekeepers a chance to revisit the basics and strengthen their skills.”

Dates: November 8–9, 2025

Location: Warren Wilson College, 701 Warren Wilson Rd, Swannanoa, NC

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, November 5, at 11:59 p.m.

Limited spots are available, so early registration is encouraged.

What Participants Can Expect

The curriculum provides an overview of beekeeping, from hive equipment and apiary setup to honey harvesting and sustainable treatment practices. Participants will:

● Explore the honey bee’s life cycle and seasonal behaviors

● Learn how to select an apiary site, use smokers, and handle harvesting tools

● Understand common pests and diseases, along with responsible treatment options

● Take part in breakout sessions and Q&A with experienced beekeepers

● Meet local vendors, see demonstrations, and enjoy raffles and giveaways

Saturday includes a provided lunch with vegan options, while Sunday begins with a bring-your-own lunch Q&A. No live bees will be used during the course, ensuring a comfortable environment for all participants.

About Buncombe County Beekeepers Club – The Buncombe County Beekeepers Club (BCBC), a chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association, is dedicated to the education and success of those interested in the art and science of beekeeping, with the support of other local beekeepers. BCBC puts a great emphasis on education because a knowledgeable beekeeper is a good, lifelong beekeeper.
