The Basics of Home Canning is a hands-on workshop that will include canning safety, types of equipment and proper pressure canning techniques to allow you to be able to preserve green beans and other low acid foods. This class is designed for beginners but would be helpful to anyone who wants a “refresher” in pressure canning. Classes will meet in at N.C. Cooperative Extension–Cabarrus County Center, 715 Cabarrus Avenue West, Concord, NC 28027. Pre-registration and payment are required. Cost per person is $12.00. Two classes will be offered: 

             *Tuesday, June 7, 5:30-9 p.m.* and Wednesday, July 6, 12:30-4:30 p.m. 

Pickle Making will be a hands-on class to introduce the easy art of quick process pickles using a boiling water bath canner. Equipment needed will be discussed as we use fresh local cucumbers in this class. Pickled products can add “spice” to your meals! Cost per person is $ 10.00.

                                    *Wednesday, June 15, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. 

Tomatoes will be a hands-on workshop to teach how to preserve the abundant local tomatoes we enjoy, using a water bath canner. Cost per person is $10.

                                       Thursday, July 14, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Registration can be done by mail, in person or online. In person at 715 Cabarrus Avenue West, Concord, NC 28027. Checks should be made payable to Cabarrus County, and mailed to Food Preservation Classes, c/o N.C. Cooperative Extension-Cabarrus County, 715 715 Cabarrus Avenue-West, Concord, NC, 28027.
