July 25 – Northeast Ag Expo Summer Field Day

The 25th annual Northeast Ag Expo Summer Field Day is scheduled and set to be held on July 25, 2019. This year’s event will be hosted by Currituck County at Roberts Brothers Inc. located on 169 N Gregory Rd. in Shawboro N.C. This year’s field day will focus on maximizing soybean and corn production. Two hours of N, O, D, X, and Certified Crop Advisor credits will be available.

The event will begin at 7:45 a.m. with registration, breakfast, and a trade show. Opening remarks will start at 9:15 a.m. and the field tour will commence from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Following the tour, diamond sponsors will present and lunch will be provided. 

The field tour will highlight seven soybean research trials and five corn trials. Presentations will be delivered by experts from North Carolina State University, Virginia Tech, as well as North Carolina Cooperative Extension agents. Topics include planting date, plant population, insect management, fertilization, variety selection, row-width, and disease management.

July 31 – Private “V” Training in Camden County

On Wednesday, July 31, from 1 to 3 p.m., Mr. Austin Brown, Camden County Agriculture Extension Agent, will be hosting a private applicator “V” credit training. The training will be held at 104 Investors Way, Camden NC. Two hours of private applicator “V” credit will be offered. For licenses expiring in 2019, two hours of “V” credit must be obtained by September 30. For more questions on Camden County’s Private “V” Training call their office at (252) 331-7630.

August 13 – Wheat Production Meeting

In preparation for the upcoming wheat season, Currituck and Camden Counties will be hosting a joint Wheat Production Meeting on August 13, from 8 to 10 a.m. The meeting will be held in the Historic Camden Courthouse (upstairs) located at 117 NC Hwy 343 N. Camden, N.C. Dr. Angela Post, NC State Extension Small Grains Specialist, will join us in discussing the latest in wheat research. Breakfast will be provided along with two hours of N, O, D, & X credits. Be sure to register to help us get a count for the meal at (252) 331-7630.

August 13 – Private “V” Training in Pasquotank County

A 4-hour private pesticide applicators training will be held at the Pasquotank County Center, located at 1209 McPherson Street, lead by Mr. Al Wood, on Tuesday, August 13. The “V” credit portion of the class begins at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 7:30 p.m. Then, immediately following at 7:30 p.m., two hours of “X” credit will be offered. If you plan to attend, please contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Pasquotank County Center at (252) 338-3954 to register. 

Private pesticide applicators that have been recertified in 2019 and have received their credits before the first of March will soon get their renewal cards. These cards must be filled out and returned with a $10.00 check to the address indicated on the form. Only after you have done this does the N.C. Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Pesticide Section issue you a new pesticide card and considers you up to date.

August 28 – Private “V” Training in Currituck County

This is the last opportunity to receive “V” credits for your Private Applicator License expiring in Sept. of 2019 in one of the six surrounding counties. On August 28, from 6:30–8:30 p.m., the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center will hold a private applicator “V” credit training. Mr. Clay Hudson, NCDA&CS Pesticide Inspector, will present the first hour of material on updates to labels and pesticide regulations. In the next hour, Mr. Adam Formella, Currituck County Agriculture Extension Agent, will present on pesticide application safety. Food will not be provided at this event, and make sure to bring your pesticide application’s license.  If you plan to attend, please contact the N.C.
