Lawn & Garden As the population of Buncombe County continues to grow, new homes are built and new residents arrive from other parts of the country. This means more people need reliable information on planting and maintaining lawn, garden, and landscape areas in Western North Carolina. In an effort to meet these demands for information, Cooperative Extension is available to help county residents manage their landscape and garden areas in an environmentally responsible manner. Home gardeners have many opportunities to learn about plant selection, good cultural practices, plant pest management and environmental awareness. The Mountain Gardener Newsletter keeps Buncombe County residents informed about timely garden chores and current gardening information. Demonstration sites afford the opportunity to learn about vegetable gardening, heirloom plants, and backyard composting. Extension Master Gardeners staff the garden hotline during the growing season to help answer gardening questions and identify problems. Extension agents and Extension Master Gardener volunteers offer gardening classes periodically and are available to present programs to local groups. You can get your lawn and garden information from us...
